Stress and burnout
"I am burned out" - such words can be heard from people who have been stressed or working hard for a long time. Interestingly, the WHO and Mayo Clinic recognize "burnout syndrome" as an official condition that can negatively affect your health. However, it is not classified as an actual disease (although the causes of burnout can contribute to the disease).
Burnout is "a syndrome resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been managed."
❗️Symptoms:
Exhaustion, depleted energy, insomnia, anger, sadness, apathy about work, decreased productivity, and anxiety.
The health consequences of burnout are similar to those of chronic uncontrollable stress and include:
- anxiety,
- depression,
- headaches,
- insomnia,
- impaired memory or concentration.
